Production Blog: Selecting Music for our Opening Sequence

Hey bloggers welcome back and today I will be choosing the music for our thriller opening sequence. This is particularly challenging for me because there's 2 different kinds of music that will be in our opening sequence. In our opening sequence we would have to effectively bridge together these two different types of music. This transition also has to be smooth in order to avoid distraction from the scenes themselves. The two types of music are the happy upbeat familiar music played in a car, teenage music. The other type of music used will be creepy, foreboding, and suspenseful in order to evoke as much emotion in the audience as possible. Due to these types of music being so diverse and different it makes it even more challenging to effectively transition these songs. I've been relooking at the Final Destination opening sequence to see what they did with their music but their music stays relatively similar the entire time. They have strong background noise and sharp beats in their music that put the audience on edge. My first idea for this is incorporating the upbeat happy music in the background throughout the middle of our scene while their packing up and setting up. The creepy music would then slowly creep up as the storm starts rolling in and they have to take shelter. The music would then reach its highest volume as the audience is about to find out what mauled the animal and made the cries. I also hoped to implement a thunder sound to further scare the audience to act as a jump scare. I was going to use one of Universal's precleared soundtracks to use from their creepy themes playlist. But these tracks were comically bad and seemed unserious. I chose a few tracks from YouTube and assorted them into a playlist. These are not my final decisions but they are suggestions I would have to present to my team. Scary Halloween Music • Creepy Music Mix #1 (youtube.com)Chloe's Lullaby HOUR LONG - Creepy Music Box - YouTube. These were all pretty stereotypical, but they could always be improved upon. The happy music can just come from one of the groups Spotify playlists. Thank you guys for reading I hope you have a wonderful day.
